During a closed-door speech Monday to the National Republican Congressional Committee, former President Donald Trump told the invited guests that they were coming back with vengeance.

Since losing to Joe Biden in the 2020 election, Donald Trump has repeatedly said that he wants his old job back and that he will mount another White House bid. It's unsurprising that a second Trump term would have political payback.

Over the years, Trump has spoken about how revenge is a guiding principle.

If someone hits you, you have to hit them back five times harder than they thought possible. You have to get even. In a 2012 speech, Trump said to get even.

If the president wins reelection in 2020, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said, "You're going to get pure Trump off the chain." Donald Trump has been in payback mode for four years.

In anticipation of a second Trump term, former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who had detailed numerous instances of what he saw as Trump's faulty judgement in a new book, was the subject of a new attack by Steve Bannon.

When we come to power, don't think you're going to skip away from this.

Four years of reprisals would follow a Trump victory in 2024, warned a former White House press secretary.

Grisham said in an interview with ABC's Good Morning America that he was the front runner in the Republican Party.

Everybody is showing their fealty to him. He is on a revenge tour for people who voted for impeachment. I want to warn people that if he were to win, he won't have to worry about reelection anymore. He will be about revenge and he will probably have some very strict policies.

One of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for inciting insurrection was Rep. Tom Rice of South Carolina. Rice knows that the vote painted a target on his back because Trump is driven by revenge.

Rice said in an April interview that he was the most "spiteful" person he had ever met.

Rice is one of six Republicans who voted to impeach Trump. The former president has supported Republicans.

Grisham has said that Trump's revenge tour also takes aim at those who refused to go along with his false contention that the election was fraudulent.

Trump criticized Republicans who supported Kemp's reelection. The governor of Georgia, Kemp, refused to certify the vote in Georgia in December of 2020 in order to hand Trump the electoral votes in the state.

Georgia's election integrity is the worst in the country today, as evidenced by the Governor, Brian Kemp. He had them all. Trump said in a statement that the grouping represented a continuation of bad elections and a real RINO if you vote for Brian Kemp.

While most Republicans are careful not to criticize Trump out of fear of being retaliated against, Christie didn't hesitate to return fire.

Insightful commentary about three Republican Governors who were overwhelmingly reelected by their people from a former President who lost to Joe Biden. Maybe the RINO stands for re-elected, he said.

According to polls, the 45th president has a good chance of becoming the 47th.

If the polls are correct, Trump's effort to weed out dissent from the GOP regarding the false claim that election fraud cost him the 2020 election will extend beyond members of Congress.

In January, the former president offered a glimpse of what he would do if he won reelection: pardon those who were convicted of crimes on Jan. 6, 2021.

If I win, we will treat those people fairly, and if it requires pardons, we will do so.

After the Electoral College count confirmed Biden's victory over Trump, William Barr resigned as Attorney General. There were disagreements about whether the election had been marred by fraud and whether the Justice Department could overturn the results.

Barr told NBC News that he told the man that the stuff was bulls**t about election fraud.

In his memoir, One Damn Thing After Another, Barr offered his own take on what led to the president's downfall.

It is comical that Trump, of all people, should consider himself an arbiter of ideological purity. His motivation is revenge, and it is very personal.
