Tibet Airlines A319 caught fire and burst into flames after a catastrophic runway excursion at China's Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.

The plane was about to take off for Tibet when it suffered a runway excursion and burst into flames.

Video footage shared on the internet showed flames and smoke from the plane.

All of the passengers and crew members were taken to the terminal after the aircraft was evacuated. More than 40 passengers were taken to the hospital with mild injuries.

The fire had been extinguished. The officials at the airport said that the fire started on the left side of the plane. After the incident, the runway was temporarily closed, but it was reopened by 10:30 am. The incident happened at 8 am.
