During the last few months of the season, a heatedMVP debate emerged between Jokic and Embiid backers, with Antetokounmpo emerging as a serious contender down the stretch.
The three made a strong argument.
The narrative for Jokic winning the award was that he led the Nuggets to 48 wins and a playoff spot despite being without two of their best players.

The case centered around him leading the league in scoring and being the first center to do so in over a decade.
He was the leader of the defense for the team and led the team to 51 wins despite the controversy surrounding Ben Simmons.
While Jokic has won the past four awards, he is still chasing his first.

Antetokounmpo was one of the league's most impactful two-way players, and he led the Bucks to 51 wins, which was good enough for him to win the award. The two-time winner finished second in scoring.
Jokic, Embiid and Giannis would have been viable winners in most seasons. It turned into a race with all three campaigns putting up great results. Voters once again sided with Jokic.
