Remember the glasses from Google?

It looks like a new version of the failed Wearable tech product is on the way.

On May 11, at the I/O, viewers were given a peak at the new glasses. According to the short video showcasing what the company has been working on, it seems like the product is meant to break down language barriers.

The augmented reality users in the demo video were able to see translations right before their eyes while wearing the device. It seemed like those wearing the device had subtitles following them around, just like a mobile real-time transcription service. This was the only glimpse of the glasses.

The importance of living in the real world with an emphasis on technology was stressed by the CEO of the company. It seems like it was learned from the experiment that took place nearly a decade ago. Privacy and safety concerns were raised by critics of the device. The augmented reality features and how they can improve everyday lives are the focus of a further discussion in a post by Pichai.

The magic of augmented reality will come alive when you can use it in the real world without the technology getting in the way.

It is not clear what features are planned for these glasses. If your selling point is that this device is about interacting away from a computer screen and living in the moment, then the AR translations feature is the perfect use case.

Whether the rest of the plans for the augmented reality glasses can live up to that will be the most important factor as to whether or not this product will get you kicked out of bars.
