A pair of smart glasses that can translate languages in real time was teased by the CEO.

During the I/O developer summit, Pichai showed a video demo of the glasses. The glasses can show live language translations to the person wearing them.

A person wearing augmented reality glasses might be able to understand what another person is saying by reading the caption on the other person's screen.

It's unclear if the glasses will ever hit the market, but the prototype shows where the company thinks augmented reality can be helpful.

The company first ventured into smart glasses a decade ago, but they were not popular with consumers due to high initial pricing and privacy concerns. The space has appeared to be pushed into by Google. North was an Amazon-backed company that made smart glasses.

During the event, the company also introduced its first smartwatch, the Pixel 6a, and teased a new device.
