The company is testing a new feature with a small group of creators. The company launched a version of Channel Memberships Gifting that allows users to gift memberships to each other. The channel memberships allow subscribers to pay a monthly fee to access extra benefits while also supporting creators.
With Memberships Gifting, a creator's channel members can buy a set number of channel memberships in a single purchase that YouTube will then gift out to other viewers in a creator's livestream. One month of access to a creator's channel membership will be given to viewers who receive a gift membership. Users need to allow gifts on a channel if they want to receive gift memberships in the live chat.

The creators of their channels will be given gift memberships based on how much they interact with their viewers. Loyal viewers who interact with the channel are more likely to receive gift memberships. If you are selected for a gift membership, you will get a personal live chat message and an email. The creator of the gift memberships gets their usual revenue share from each transaction. Existing channel members are not eligible to receive a gifted membership.
We're not ready to make this widely available just yet, so we're launching a trial to get feedback and continue developing features.
The 70/30 revenue split is used for gift memberships, where revenue share is calculated after App Store fees and other charges. The creators can request access to the new feature via this request form. If you get access to the feature over the next few months, you will be notified.
The launch of the test coincides with the expansion of the Super Thanks feature to all eligible creators in the partner program. The feature allows viewers who want to show their appreciation for a video to pay creators with one of four pre-set amounts. Super chat is a way for creators to make money from their livestreams. The Super Stickers feature is for fans who want to show their support and connect with their favorite creators.
