Most of the A380s around the globe were grounded at the start of the epidemic. Some airlines have decided to retire jumbos permanently, while others have begun to bring them back. Another airline is planning to resume service on the A380. All Nippon Airways will resume flights on July 1, 2022. The airline will begin flying A380s between Tokyo Narita and Honolulu on that date. The flight will operate on Fridays and Saturdays. NH184 Tokyo to Honolulu arrives at 8:45AM. NH183 Honolulu to Tokyo departing 11:35AM arriving 2:50PM (+1 day)
ANA A380 returns to Honolulu route as of July 2022
This isn't a very long flight, as it takes 3,819 miles in each direction.
All Nippon Airways has three A380s. The airline is restarting A380 service slowly, as a single A380 will be flying for two days per week. Plans haven't yet been announced for increasing A380 service.
ANA is the only airline that explicitly ordered the A380 for a leisure route. While most airlines fly A380s in high capacity business markets, ANA's A380s are only offered on flights to Hawaii, which is popular with Japanese tourists.
While Japan is closed to most foreign visitors, this route is mostly used by Japanese tourists and they can travel with limited restrictions.
Mixed fleet flying was introduced by ANA in late 2021, whereby pilots could be rated on both the A320 and A380. That is a first among A380 operators.
There are 520 seats on the A380s of All Nippon Airways.
Business class doesn't look as good as ANA's first class on the plane.
The A380s will be coming back as of July 2022. The double decker will be flying between Tokyo and Honolulu twice weekly in the summer.
It is nice to see another airline return the A380 to service, especially since other airlines are retiring their A380 fleets.
What do you think about the A380 making a comeback?
