An audio clip published by CNN shows the moment a passenger with no flying experience landed a plane at Palm Beach International Airport on Tuesday after the pilot became unresponsive.
The passenger, who has not been named, was on the plane with the pilot when he had a medical emergency. The man was the only passenger.
In an audio clip obtained by CNN, the passenger calmly tells air traffic control at Palm Beach International Airport that he has a serious situation. I have no idea how to fly the airplane because my pilot has gone incoherent.
After the air traffic controller asked the passenger what he was doing, the man said he had no idea. The coast of Florida is in front of me. I have no idea.
According to the audio, the air traffic controller talked the passenger through a safe landing. At one point in the conversation, the passenger was told to push forward on the controls and descend at a very slow rate.
A video of the landing was published by WPBF.
The pilot was rushed to the hospital. The pilot's condition is not clear.
CNN reported that the FAA was investigating the incident. The agency did not reply immediately.
Private planes usually have one pilot on board. Insider previously reported that the Cessna model has been the leader in single-pilot jet aircraft.
