There was no right or wrong answer among several deserving candidates for the NBA Most Valuable Player Award, according to Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid.
Going forward, he will steer his focus toward winning a championship.
When asked if he was surprised that Jokic would win the award again, he said that he knew about it weeks ago. I knew it was not going to happen.
Congratulation to Nikola. He was the one who deserved it. He had a great season. There is no right or wrong. There were many candidates. It could have gone either way. The best team in the league by far is the one that includes Antetokounmpo and Booker. Every year is all about who you guys decide and who you think is going to win.
After putting together arguably the best season of his career, including an NBA-best 30.6 points per game, and a career-high 11.7 rebound and 4.2 assists, he was one of three candidates for the award for a second year in a row.
The NBA is expected to make a formal announcement on the winner later this week. It did not happen. At this point, it is whatever. Whatever happens, happens.
I was campaigning about it last year. In the next few years until I retire, I wonder what else I have to do to win it. It's all about focusing, not that I wasn't focused on the bigger picture, but it's time to really put all my energy into the bigger picture, which is to win the whole thing.
The Ringer's Bill Simmons made a comment about Houston's Jalen Green being a candidate for the all-rookie team while he was on the team. Simmons later posted an explanation of his position.
The media votes on NBA awards.
If Jalen Green was in a position to earn a supermax, or if he was in an All-Star appearance, he would have a lot of power.
I don't think it's fair. I don't think it's right. That is the only thing I have to say about those awards.
The Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Miami Heat 120-85 in Game 5 on Tuesday night to fall into a 3-2 series hole. They are one loss away from being bounced in the second round of the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons.
After the game, everyone agreed that the 76ers looked listless from the opening tip, and that Miami jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
76ers coach Doc Rivers said that they were taken out of stuff by them.
James Harden said that they were not engaged defensively and that slowed down their offense. We need to be engaged. We need to be locked in. In the second round of the playoffs, on the road in a Game 5, it is not good enough to play hard. You have to play hard. You have to be able to think, possession by possession, and we didn't put enough thinking possessions together.
During the second quarter, he was hit in the right side of his face by Dedmon after he corralled a rebound, and he spent an extended period on the ground.
Fortunately for the 76ers, Embiid got up and was checked out by the doctors, and he never left the game.
When asked if he had concerns that playing through his injury would make it worse, he said that he was not a specialist. I am listening to the doctors. I don't think so.
It is just about pain tolerance. This is not a good situation for me. I will probably get called soft if I don't play. If I play bad, and he plays good, he probably comes up with a bunch of stuff that is not good enough. It is all about trying to not get too high or too low and just going out there and trying to dig very deep and try to do whatever I can.
The 76ers have to win at home in Game 6 to stay alive.
"I'm pretty confident." said Embiid.
We went down 2-0, then we tied it up. We have it in us. We have more to give, and I haven't been myself. Even in the two wins. I didn't think I played well. I thought my presence on the court was important for us. I have not been aggressive. I kind of let the game come to me, but I am not saying I want to force the issue. They are not letting the game come to me.
I want to get back to that dominant self that I can be by going back and watching film and finding ways to really, really be impactful and try to be.
