Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max

If you are a person who buys their phones full price, this latest news on phone resale values might have you singing the blues. After a single month of ownership, a study found that the value of the phones was quickly depreciate. After the second month, the baseline Pixel 6 appreciated in value more than any of the other phones.

The study from SellCell, one of the biggest trade in sites in the U.S., shows how easy it is to lose money on a premium phone if it doesn't fit your needs. All of Apple's iPhone 13 models depreciated less than either of the newer flagship phones. The trade-in deals for phones have had a negative affect on the second-hand market.

The worst performer in the study was the SAMSUNG GALAXY S22 Plus which is the number one phone on the list. After just one month of ownership, that phone's value dropped a whopping 53.8%. The most expensive model of the S22 dropped 41.7%, while the smallest and least expensive model dropped 42.4%.

The smaller and cheaper Pixel 6 lost just 37.2% of its value after one month, making it the worst performer. The most expensive phone on the market, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, dropped 6.3% in value after one month. After one month, the devices only in good condition dropped even harder in value, with the S22 Plus losing 57.5% of its value.

While it is clear that Apple's phones hold up far better in value than the best Android phones, there is one clear lesson from this study: make sure you take advantage of trade-in deals and carrier deals when buying your next phone. When buying a new phone, manufacturers and carriers often offer hundreds of dollars for old phones, which can help offset the resale value loss.
