According to a source, the Texans have signed veteran defensive end Jerry Hughes.
Hughes is from Sugar Land, Texas and played at Stephen F. Austin High School.
Nick Caserio has added to the Texans defensive line with the addition of Hughes. On Tuesday, the Texans announced they signed Hughes, a former teammate with the Buffalo Bills. Houston added a defensive end last week.
The signing was first reported by a reporter.
Hughes was the longest tenured Buffalo player last season and was retained by the Bills from the previous regime. The 12-year veteran played in all 17 games but his lowest percentage of defensive snaps played since the beginning of his career.
The Indianapolis Colts selected Hughes as the 31st-overall pick in the 2010 draft, but he had a slow start to his career. He was traded from the Colts to the Bills in the summer of 2013).
The Bills were where Hughes found success after nine years with them. In his first two years in Buffalo, he had 10 sacks and finished with at least four in each of the following seasons. He led the team in pass rush win rate.
Hughes is fourth all-time in Bills franchise history with 53 sacks and has 58 total in his career. He has seven sacks in the playoffs. The team has continued to invest in youth, especially on the defensive line, and Hughes has been a long time leader of the defense.
