Should Musk's acquisition of the social network succeed, he would restore the account of former President Donald Trump.

During a live interview with the Financial Times on Tuesday afternoon, Musk said he would reverse the permaban.

He said that the decision to ban Trump in January 2020 was morally bad and foolish.

In the wake of the attempted insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6, 2020, Trump's account was banned.

Musk said that the logic behind the ban didn't justify a permanent ban.

He said that permabans undermine trust in Twitter as a town square where everyone can voice their opinion. But not a permanent ban.

He said that the ban didn't end Trump's voice. This is why it is morally wrong and stupid.

Musk has referred to the social network as a "public town square" of the modern era, the digital equivalent of a public forum. He was critical of the decision to permanently ban Trump from the site.

It is not clear if Trump would come back if his account was restored. After leaving office, he started a social media service called Truth Social, and has repeatedly said that he would not do that again.
