According to local authorities, Adreian Payne, a former first round pick in the NBA draft, was shot and killed in Florida on Monday.
The victim of the shooting was identified by the Orange County Sheriff's office as Payne.
Payne was pronounced dead at the hospital at 31 years old, according to police.
Lawrence Dority is in an Orange County jail on murder charges.
Payne was selected 15th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA draft and played four seasons in the league before moving on to play basketball overseas. While at Michigan State, Payne made his most notable impact on the court, setting the school's record for blocked shots and earning two second-team All-Big Ten selections. Lacey Holsworth, a young cancer patient, was known for her friendship with Payne while he was at Michigan State.
