A group of NFT creators will soon be able to display their token on the photo sharing site. Meta is testing NFTs on the platform, with similar functions coming soon to Facebook, according to a post today by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Adam Mosseri said in a video today that a small group of US users will have the ability to display NFTs on their feed, stories, and in messages. Clicking on the tag will display details like the name of the creator and owner.

NFTs on Instagram

This week we’re beginning to test digital collectibles with a handful of US creators and collectors who will be able to share NFTs on Instagram. There will be no fees associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible on IG.

Mosseri said that the test is small to start so that they can learn from the community. In an attempt to tackle distrust of a major social networking platform jumping into NFTs, he brings up a tension between large companies likeInstagram and thedecentralization ethos of Web3.

Mosseri says that NFTs and other technologies are all about distributing trust and power.

According to a report from the weekend, Flow NFTs will be supported.

Mosseri believes that support for NFTs on social media could help introduce the technology to a broader range of people. In January, the platform introduced NFTs as hexagon-shaped profile pictures. There is an icon in the corner of the NFTs posts. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal last week, sales have been flat since a peak last September, even though companies and celebrities have been quick to jump on NFTs.
