Are you buying a new car? At first, it might not come with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto support.

According to a report by automotive news europe, certain new BMW models are being shipped without support for Apple and Google.

BMW confirmed the report and told the outlet that the issue stems from the ongoing chip shortage that has hit the automotive industry pretty hard in the past year or so. BMW had to use a different chip for its vehicle because it couldn't get a certain chip for it.

Following a software update, theFunctionality will be enabled eventually. The company said an update is coming by the end of June.

BMW models were affected in the first four months of the year. If your car has the string 6P1 in its production code, you should check it. Forum posts show that affected models were shipped to the U.S. and Europe.

BMW is not the only company that had to ship cars without certain features in order to get them out on time. Ford and Volvo shipped some models without certain safety features, whileTesla cut a redundant steering component from its cars due to a chip shortage. BMW has done it before, and it was done last year due to the chip shortage.
