Reforma newspaper reported that the head of Mexico's navigation agency resigned because the airspace above the country's capital has become more dangerous for flying.

Videos posted to social media on Saturday showed a Volaris aircraft approaching a runway at Mexico City's airport, which was already occupied by another Volaris jet. The plane aborted its landing.

The International Air Transport Association and a pilot's association raised an alert this week because of a worrying increase in ground proximity warning events. At least 17 warnings have been recorded at the airport.

No passenger or crew was ever at risk due to the training and protocols of the pilots, according to the Chief Executive Officer.

In Mexico City, the Airline Group IATA called out the worrying situation.
