In weekend box office news that isn't about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Bad Guys earned another $9.77 million in its third weekend. That will give Universal's $80 million animated caper comedy a $57.5 million domestic and $148 million worldwide. It will be on PVO VO next week, but there will be no kid flicks over the next month, along with Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange 2 being more Drag Me to Hell than Oz: The Great and Powerful. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earned $7.1 million for a new domestic gross of $169 million. It has passed the grosses of Sing 2, No Time to Die, and Eternals and will soon surpass Black Widow and F9 on Covid-era charts.
I don't know if today's kids care about a sequel to a movie their parents liked in the summer of 1986 or not, but the Tom Cruise sequel is pretty kid-friendly. Sonic 2 has made $348 million while Sony's Uncharted has made $400 million. Warner Bros.' Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore earned $3.9 million over the weekend, which was less than the $5 million earned by The Crimes of Grindelwald. The domestic and worldwide totals are $364 million and $86 million, respectively. That isn't good for J.K. Rowling. It didn't help that there was a rival wizarding fantasy in the marketplace.
Everything, Everywhere All at Once didn't collapse despite losing 1/3 of its screens. Over the weekend, the release earned $3.3 million in 1,542 theaters for a $41.5 million total. It will pass Hereditary next weekend to become A 24's third-biggest domestic earner. If it holds over the next month, it could pass Lady Bird and Uncut Gems. Top Gun: Maverick and Bob's Burgers: The Movie will be released on Memorial Day weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see it level out again after this drop, even if it plays like Addams Family 2. Under normal circumstances, - 40% is a decent hold.
The Northman will make $4.7 million in weekend three for a total of $28 million domestic and $52 million worldwide. The Lost City will make 2.5 million dollars despite losing 698 theaters for a $94.4 million and $163 million global gross. By the end of the movie, it should have made $100 million domestically. Nicolas Cage's film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will make just over 1.5 million dollars, but will make $16.1 million in 17 days. Liam Neeson's Memory was a flop with a ten-day gross of $5.3 million and a six-day gross of $1.22 million. The Batman made $105,000 in 202 theaters for a $369.2 million gross. It was put on HBO Max after 45 days.
