Evan Blass, a reliable leaker, gave us a first look at what appears to be a testing model of the third generation Motorola Razr. Two upgraded cameras are on the back of the device, a 50MP f / 1.8 main sensor and a 13MP sensor for macro and ultra-wide shots.
The device appears to have lost its chin or lip in the image of it fully closed. It looks like it folds over on itself to form a square shape when it is closed, deviating from both the modern remakes of the device and its original design.
The power button is where the fingerprint sensor is likely to be on the device. The back of the 5G-upgraded Razr was where the fingerprint sensor was placed before it was placed on the chin. The placement on the back of the device was described as awkward by the former executive editor of The Verge.
The Razr 3 has an FHD+ interior folding display and a hole-punch 32MP selfie camera. The image of the device's interior screen can be viewed at 91Mobiles. A standard version of the device is rumored to come with a chip that is an upgraded version of the SoC. It's supposed to have up to 12 gigabyte of RAM and up to 512 gigabyte of internal storage.
With its boxier design and dual camera sensors, it looks like it is going to compete with the flagship foldable device from South Korea. The first two Razr reboots were not the most impressive, with a price tag of $1,499 and flaws like a creaky hinge and subpar camera. The addition of 5G didn't justify the price of the second iteration.
The third generation of the Razr is rumored to launch in China in July or August, in line with an announcement from aLenovo executive in December. There is no word on a release date outside of China. The Verge reached out to the company but didn't hear back.
