The Madrid Open final was won by Carlos Alcaraz, a 19-year-old from Spain.
The German second seed was beaten 6-3 6-1 by the 19-year-old, who had beaten Nadal and Djokovic in his previous two matches.
Alcaraz has four titles of the year, including his second Masters 1000 crown.
He will rise to sixth in the world before the French Open.
He said that the tournament is special for him because he watched it when he was a child.
The semi-final between Zverev and Alcaraz did not finish until after 01:00 local time on Sunday.
He dominated from the start and beat the German to win the title.
The rising star of the sport seemed to be unable to deal with the out of sorts Zverev.
In the opening set, Alcaraz broke to make it 4-2 and was in complete control after that, thrilling the home crowd with his variety of shots and keeping his opponent on the run.
The teenager broke his opponent three times in the second set to win in one hour and four minutes.
