Allow your text to be dictated.

If you want to try it out, open the Tools menu and choose Voice typing to get started. You can use the keyboard shortcut, Cmd+Shift+S, if you find it easier.

Click the microphone to start speaking. If you need to make edits or clarifications, you can continue to type while you see your words written out. Click on the mic button again to turn it off.

Commands such as "select paragraph" and "go to the end of the line" are supported by your voice. Try experimenting with different commands and consult the full list of phrases here.

Quickly create new documents.

If you want to create a new document quickly, you need to type "doc.new" into your browser's address bar. You could make the process faster by creating a desktop shortcut or a browser bookmark that points to the same hyperlink shortcut.

The substitution feature can be used in many ways.

You can set up your own substitution.

When you open the Tools menu in the doc, you will see a list of character combinations that the doc will replace with something else when you type them.

The replace and with boxes are at the top of the list. You can change existing subscriptions, remove substitutions using the crosses on the right side, or enable anddisable substitution using the checkboxes on the left.

It's up to you, how you use substitution is up to you, there are a lot of uses.

Liaise on Emails.

If you want to work on emails for Gmail until they are ready to go, you can use the Docs application, which is tightly linked to the email client. Pick Email draft and then choose from inside the doc to get started.

The email can be written in the main text field when you are ready to send it to Gmail, and you can click on the blue email icon just to the left to send it.

You can change the layout and fonts.

You don't have to settle for the default look that Gmail gives you, set up the layout and text formatting options so that they work best for you. Right at the top of the fonts list drop-down is where you can select Add fonts to import new ones.

The zoom drop-down on the toolbar is one of the other options. You can switch to a Pageless view if you open the File menu and pick Page setup.
