One of the owners of London-based gelato company says his frozen desserts are winning fans in all seasons.

Sam Newman said in an interview with Insider that it was all about creating a product that could be enjoyed.

The typical British style of ice cream is light and cold, compared with the products of Hackney Gelato.

Newman said that the UK lacked top-quality ice cream and that as a result of his and co-founder Enrico Pavoncelli's Italian heritage, the two were able to spot a gap in the market.

The pair met while working in a restaurant in London. Newman said the idea to build a premium gelato brand was born after months of discussions.

We want consumers to know that they can entertain all year long. If it is sunny in the park, but not in the middle of November, it is great.

December was the best month of the year before the Pandemic, according to Newman.

As a stockist, Hackney Gelato supplies its carefully crafted product to restaurants, corner shops, various UK-based food-delivery services, as well as supermarkets.

Newman said that his company had a strong restaurant presence prior to Caval because of Christmas dinners and concessions.

During the Pandemic, the decision to move the business into retail was a benefit. It gave us another way to get to the consumer despite restaurants being closed, because fewer people dining out as a result of lockdowns.

The way people order has changed because of the pandemic.

Newman and Pavoncelli used the best possible ingredients and traditional Italian techniques to make their gelato.

We use fresh fruit, fresh milk, and fresh cream. Newman said that everything is made from scratch. The flavor and texture of the gelato are influenced by this.

Newman said he hopes to expand the business to international markets, specifically the Middle East, due to its appreciation for British goods.
