It was only fitting that one of the biggest underdogs won the Kentucky Derby because of the crowded group of 20 horses and no clear favorite.

Rich Strike was the first horse to win the first leg of the Triple Crown.

Rich Strike is the second-biggest favorite to win the Kentucky Derby, according to Ben Roberts of the Kansas City Star. When Donerail won in 1913, he was a big favorite.
