  • Senator Cruz sparred with reporters over the leak of the SCOTUS draft opinion.

  • The Texas Republican believes that the culprit was a left-wing law clerk.

  • The marshal was directed by Chief Justice Roberts to investigate the leak.

Ted Cruz alleged that a left-wing law clerk was behind the leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion on abortion.

During the conversation, the Texas Republican leaned on earlier theories that he had talked about on television earlier in the week, where he said that some left-wing presumably law clerk wanted to put political pressure on the five justices that made up the majority.

If that left-wing law clerk succeeds, it would be the most grotesque thing that could happen to the justices.

Cruz has continued to state that it was a liberal individual despite his inability to verify the identity.

Cruz contended on Friday that the intent of the leak was clear.

Why do you think this was a liberal clerk who leaked it? A reporter asked Cruz if he had information that suggested that.

He said that he was not a moron. This is an attempt from someone who is unhappy with the direction the court is going, to put political pressure on the justices to change their outcome. You know that is the only reason this gets leaked. You are a reporter in Washington, DC.

The reporter suggested that one of the justices may have changed their views since the draft decision, with a conservative potentially leaking the document because they supported the original decision and want to lock them back in.

The reporter asked Cruz if it was a reasonable scenario.

I find that ludicrous, the senator seemingly mocked it. Maybe you will win a Pulitzer for that if it is the case.

The reporter was still asking for proof of the culprit's identity.

The reporter told Cruz that he had no evidence.

I think it is obvious what is going on here. We have all seen leaks in this town, but not at the Supreme Court.

Cruz felt that the leaker should be put in jail for a long time and that he wanted to see him brought to justice.

Chief Justice John Roberts, who earlier this week directed the marshal of the Supreme Court to launch an investigation into the leak, said on Thursday that it was absolutely appalling.

The revelation that the draft opinion was published by Politico has caused fissures on the subject from Democratic congressional leaders and left-leaning organizations who want to codify the procedure into law for the sake of their political careers.
