Ukrainian media is reporting that a Russian ship is on fire in the Black Sea.

The ship is said to be one of Russia's newest and most advanced warships. The 4,000-ton vessel is one of the largest warships in Russia's Black Sea Fleet, which is a key part of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian frigate project 11356P of the Burevestnik type was identified by the Ukrainian news site as the ship.

Enemy aircraft are circling over this area of the Black Sea.

The Russian cruiser Moskva was sunk last month by the Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missiles. The news site has satellite imagery that shows an object on fire in the Black Sea.

The Ukrainian reports seem to be at least partly accurate, according to independent sources.

According to flight tracker RadarBox, a U.S. Air Force RQ-4B Global Hawk was patrolling the Black Sea. It is not clear if the current flight is related to the reported sinking of a ship in the Black Sea.

According to Russia's RIA Novosti news service, the Russian government denied that another ship had been hit.

It is difficult to be certain of what happened at this point. History shows that Russia will deny that it ever happened, and that Ukraine has the ability to sink Russian ships.

The claim that the cruiser Moskva was sunk by two Neptune missiles has been supported by Western analysts. Russia says that the was stricken by an accidental fire. The flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the 11,000-ton Moskva, is most likely to have died in a war zone.

If another Russian ship was badly damaged or sunk, it would be a black eye for Russia. An Alligator-class landing ship was sunk by fire in March.

While the Moskva is much smaller, the Admiral Makarov is a powerful vessel with eight vertical launch cells for Kalibr and other cruise missiles, as well as short-range air defense cannon and anti-submarine rockets. The Russian Navy operates three or perhaps now two Admiral Grigorovich-class frigates, with 10 similar vessels either completed or under construction for India as Talwar-class vessels.

The Neptune is an anti-ship missile that has a range of 175 miles. When used by land-based batteries, it is still a formidable coastal defense weapon, even though it is slower than modern supersonic and hypersonic missiles.

Real-time intelligence on a target's location is important for long-range weapons. The U.S. government has acknowledged that it gave targeting information to the Ukranian government about the Moskva's identity and position. If another Russian ship was hit by missiles while sailing far off the Ukrainian coast, then Moscow will ask questions.

The destruction of Russian warships may deter the Russian Navy from operating too close to the Ukrainian coast, which would deprive Russia's battered ground forces of amphibious support as well as close blockade of Ukrainian ports.

Revenge against a ship that probably launched cruise missiles at Ukrainian cities is even sweeter. The history of the Russian Navy was the same. The name of the ship was given to the admiral who commanded a Russian fleet during the war. His fleet was wiped out by the Japanese after his flagship was sunk by a mine.
