One of the top employees at the company said at a conference this week that they will likely make it to Mars before the NASA Artemis mission.

During an interview with CNBC, Shotwell said that astronauts will have boots on Mars before the end of the 2020s, and will use one of the rockets that will be used by the company. According to Shotwell, the rockets can carry people and will reach the Red Planet in five years or so.

I think it will be in this decade. Shotwell said in the interview that people should be on the Moon sooner.

Progress is possible since they haven't made it to the Moon with humans yet, but they have been successful with tourist trips to the International Space Station.

ARTEMIS

Shotwell's estimated date for humans to arrive on Mars is far in advance of what NASA had in mind with its Artemis mission. NASA believes Artemis will send a crewed mission to Mars in about ten years.

The space agency's Artemis tests haven't been going well recently. NASA is spending so much money and time that it could fall into the same engineering traps as SpaceX.

Any decision that is made by SpaceX will affect NASA, since they provide tons of tech and equipment. Whether or not CEO Musk likes it, he and NASA may end up working together more closely on this Mars mission than he had planned.
