Brighton goal
Brighton's Moises Caicedo became the 100th player to score his first ever Premier League goal against Manchester United

The result of the Manchester United defeat at the hands of the Seagulls confirmed that the club would not be going to the European Championship.

Moises Caicedo put the hosts ahead with a low 25-yard strike after Alex Telles failed to clear the ball.

The visitors fell apart in the second half, giving up three goals in a row.

Cucurella fired into the roof of the net from Trossard's pull-back for the second, with Trossard setting up Gross to calmly steer in a third.

Trossard scored the fourth goal of the game for the Seagulls when he bundled the ball over the line from close range after a video assistant review ruled that he did not have a hand in the goal.

With only the top four in the league playing in next season's competition, United cannot finish higher than sixth in the league.

It will be the fifth time in 30 years that they will not play in Europe's major competition, and they could even miss out on the Europa League and drop into the third tier.

They are six points ahead of West Ham, who have two games in hand.

Brilliant Brighton set for their best season ever

The crowd at the Amex set a new record for the club and will be remembered by their fans for a long time.

They have had some great moments this season, including a win at Spurs and taking four points off the other team. This victory over United is the best.

The Seagulls were not flattered by the margin of victory and could have scored more, with Welbeck going close in the first half and unlucky not to add a fifth late on, with an excellent effort from 25 yards that curled just past the post.

Bruno Fernandes effort was parried by Robert Sanchez.

Edinson Cavani thought he had scored a goal when he steered in a cross from close range, but it was ruled out for an obstruction.

This was the first home win of the year for the Seagulls, who had only picked up four points from their previous eight games at the Amex.

It kept them on course to claim their first ever top 10 finish in English football.

The season cannot end quickly for United. They spent over 120 million dollars on Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and five-time Ballon d'Or winner CR7 and were hoping to push for the title after coming second last season.

The club went backwards after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, although he was not given the chance to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window.

The rebuilding task facing Ten Hag, who could win the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday, is growing by the match.

The toughest task in football is to bring United back to their glory days.
