According to reports, the owner of a superyacht was found to be in possession of incriminating evidence by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

ABC News in Australia reported the story.

The US requested the seizure of Suleiman Kerimov's $325 million superyacht, which the FBI and Fijian law enforcement worked together to achieve.

According to a statement from the Department of Justice, the seizure warrant was issued due to evidence that the vessel was subject to forfeiture due to violations of US law.

According to the DOJ, court documents show that Kerimov owned the vessel after being named a Russian government official.

The 350-foot superyacht is located in Lautoka, not in the port of Nadi as was previously reported. According to Forbes, Kerimov is the ninth-richest person in Russia with a fortune of around $14.5 billion. The US, EU, and the UK have imposed sanctions on him over his ties to Russian President Putin.

Kerimov is one of the people who have been sanctioned for being part of Putin's circle. The assets of the oligarchs have been frozen or seized by the West.

The US Department of Justice said in a statement on Thursday that according to court documents, Kerimov and those who acted on his behalf caused US dollar transactions to be routed through US financial institutions for the support and maintenance of the Amadea.

The maintenance cost of a superyacht can be as high as 15%. Environmental issues are caused by vessels that are not properly maintained.

Attorney General Garland said in the statement that there is no hiding place for the assets of individuals who violate US laws. There is no hiding place for the assets of criminals who help the Russian regime.

The Justice Department will be relentless in their efforts to hold accountable those who facilitate the death and destruction we are seeing in Ukraine.

Some of Russia's richest people have had their private jets and mansions seized because of Western sanctions. Some people have tried to evade sanctions by moving their assets.

The deputy attorney general said that the seizure of the yacht should tell every corrupt Russian that they can't hide. We will use every means to enforce the sanctions against Russia.
