According to sources, the Los Angeles Lakers interviewed Terry Stotts for their coaching job on Friday.

The Lakers are looking for a coach with a history of playoff consistency, offensive creativity and an ability to build relationships with his star players. In his last eight seasons on the job, Stotts reached the Western Conference playoffs in two of them, including a trip to the conference semifinals in 2019.

The Lakers search has been methodical so far. Sources said that the organization has been interviewing coaches in waves of one or two at a time, instead of the traditional format of interviewing many candidates before paring down the list for follow-up interviews.

Rob Pelinka is the general manager of the Lakers, but there is a committee in place to vet the candidates. Sources said that Pelinka, Buss, Rambis, and Jackson are part of the conversations.

Sources said that the Lakers reached out to Darvin Ham and Adrian Griffin to discuss the opening.

The Lakers missed the playoffs with a 33-49 record.

The second-winningest coach in franchise history, Stotts left Portland after nine seasons to take the helm of the Atlanta Hawks. He had brief stops with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Brewers.
