Multiple publications reported late Friday that a group led by Todd Boehly, the billionaire part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers, has reached a deal to buy the famed English soccer club.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the deal to buy the club is just shy of $5 billion, which would shatter the sale price record for a professional sports team.
The sale must be approved by the U.K. government.

Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca and the richest man in Britain, Sir James Ratcliffe, were interested in buying the soccer club. UnderAbramovich, the club rose from the middle of the table in the premier league to an international powerhouse. The club won five titles, five FA Cups and twice was a champion of the European competition under the ownership of Roman Abramovich. The proceeds from the upcoming sale are expected to go to charity.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Boehly-led group had reached a deal to buy the company.
Todd Boehly is in talks to acquire the club. Sir James Ratcliffe submitted a bid.
The U.K. has sanctions against Roman Abramovich and six other Russian Oligarchs.
