Canelo Alvarez may follow in the footsteps of Roy Jones Jr.

Throughout his career, Canelo has always been up for a challenge. He had 43 fights under his belt by the time he faced Floyd Mayweather. He has won titles at many different levels. lvarez will fight Bivol for the light-heavyweight belt. lvarez is running out of opponents to defeat and hooks for all of his championship belts at 31 years old. Roy Jones Jr. was a fighter nearly 20 years ago.

By the time Roy Jones turned 34 there wasn't much left to do. He decided to go for a piece of one of the most storied titles in sports. Jones put on arguably the best performance of his career in 2003 when he defeated John Ruiz in a unanimous decision.

The much smaller fighter was viciously pounding him with combinations and counter punches. Jones would have knocked him out if he was smaller. He had won four of his last five fights. Jones was an excellent fighter and a showman in his day, but he was also a power puncher.

The career of Jones began to go in the wrong direction after the fight with Ruiz. He lost his next three bouts after winning a majority decision against Anonio Tarver. Tarver knocked Jones down with his eyes closed. He lost to Tarver twice and then to Glen Taylor in a return to the heavyweights. It was all for Jones. He would go on to fight many more times, and also win a cruiserweight title, but he would never again be the unstoppable force that he was against Ruiz.

lvarez said he is open to the idea of fighting Usyk for his title. Usyk defeated Joshua in a title fight last year. Usyk was the cruiserweight champion when he beat Joshua. He outclassed his larger opponent for the majority of the fight.

If Usyk defeats Joshua in July, a fight for his title would be the biggest fight of the year or in the next few years, and it would be the best shot at a blockbuster fight outside of a third fight. lvarez needs to be careful moving up and down weight classes.

Jones' career took a nosedive when he went back to light-weight after putting on the weight for a fight. It is hard to train for a top-level opponent. Taking weight off and putting it on are physically demanding.

lvarez and Usyk are fun to watch. With Usyk not being a giant, lvarez has a better chance of taking the punishment that he would receive. These are two of the best pound-for-pound boxers. If he beats Usyk, he might become the best fighter in the world.

It would be the toughest challenge for a professional. The skill and speed that separates him from almost any fighter he battles in the ring would only take him so far. Usyk is an extremely skilled fighter who confused Josha during their fall bout, but he is also able to defeat cruiserweights by knockout.

The catchweight was one pound over the cruiserweight limit, but lvarez started boxing at 139 pounds. Even if he defeats Usyk, what will he do next? The only way to unify the titles is to negotiate a deal. As big of a fight as that would be, Fury is only a few years older than. He could fit the man into his shorts.

If he chose not to defend it or lose, he would have to lose a lot of weight to get back to light weight. It could be the perfect storm that leads to Roy Jones. It was like the end of the glory days of his career.

I would love to see him fight Usyk, but I want his career to last as long as possible. lvarez is better off waiting for GGG He will be in line for more paychecks in the future if he keeps his dominance.
