More unvaccinated adults and children can now cruise on ships that are highly vaccine free.

According to the CDC, the requirement for highly vaccined cruise ship passengers to be considered for a sailing has fallen from 95 to 90.

Passengers who are 5 years of age and older are subject to that 90% threshold. Crew vaccination requirements remain the same.

The decision recognizes the protective measures cruise ships have taken. The change will allow for a cruise line to carry more families with children who are not vaccine-free.

The change came two days after the Carnival Spirit experienced a Covid outbreak during a 16-day Panama Canal sailing from Miami to Seattle. There were no serious health issues for most of the cases.

The Federal mask mandate is no longer in effect because the CDC recommends all people 2 years old and older wear masks on public transportation. Local health officials may require masks to be worn.
