The location of the Russian ship Moskva was confirmed by U.S. intelligence before it was hit by the Ukrainian navy in April, according to several media outlets.
The Moskva was located by Ukrainian forces on the Black Sea and they contacted the U.S. forces to confirm its identity before firing on it.
According to the Times, the Biden Administration has provided battlefield intelligence data to the Ukrainians as well as projections of future Russian troop maneuvers.
The United States tried to keep its intelligence-sharing operations with Ukraine under wraps so as not to antagonize Russia, the Times reported.
The U.S. officials have refused to give information to their Ukrainian counterparts on possible targets inside Russia, despite the fact that these revelations indicate a very close relationship between the U.S. and Ukraine during the Russian invasion.
The Moskva was the flagship of Russia's Black Sea Fleet until it was struck by two Neptune missiles. Russia admitted that the ship had been destroyed, but state media claimed that it had sunk because of an accidental fire. The February 24 Snake Island incident, in which defiant Ukrainian State Border Guard personnel allegedly refused to surrender, is known as the Moskva incident. The border guards were captured by Russia, but Ukraine initially said they were dead.
According to CNN, the US has not shared the locations of individual Russian military commanders. The New York Times reported Wednesday that U.S. intelligence has been used to target and kill Russian generals.
The report says that Ukrainians killed Russian generals with the help of the U.S. intelligence.
