Apple, Google, and Microsoft are working together to kill the password. The major OS vendors want to expand support for a common passwordless sign-in standard created by the FIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium. You need to get your phone unlocked, then you need to use a pin or something similar to get on your way. This is not a replacement for the password, it is a replacement for the phone-based two-factorAuthentication system. Some push 2FA systems work over the internet, but this new FIDO scheme doesn't. I'm not sure if we have a good reputation for compatibility and security with the way we leverage the user's phone during verification.
