Jomboy Media

Jomboy Media, founded by Jimmy O'Brien, has reached an additional $5 million in financing that will allow the company to expand into additional sports avenues.

Jomboy Media received an initial $1 million angel investment 13 months ago.

With the additional funding, the company plans on hiring a CEO and other executives to focus on internal PR and Marketing, as well as a more robust sales and merchandising team.

The investment was made by way of a partnership with Creative Artists Agency and a global venture capital firm. Billy Crystal, Josh Hader, and C.C. Sabathia are just a few of the additional investors with Connect.

Adam Friedman will join the board of Jomboy Media as part of the investment.

Jimmy's ability to build in a short period of time is impressive. We are looking forward to this journey with him and the team.

Jomboy Media will use the funding to expand into other North American sports, as well as the development of original content for television and streaming platforms. The company will look to add marquee talent.

The rise of Jomboy began with O Brien providing commentary around key moments in Major League Baseball. His stock took off when he posted a breakdown of game audio that showed the Houston Astros using trash can lids to pass signals for sign stealing.

Jomboy has remained a popular platform for players and fans. The initial $1 million investment in 2020 was made by a group of people.

O'Brien didn't hesitate when asked if he planned to grow Jomboy Media into a bigger empire.

He told me in an interview that it has been organic. I have had a big vision in the back of my mind.

There is a good reason for O Brien and the team of investors to be positive about Jomboy Media's future. According to the company, Jomboy Media saw revenue increase by 500% from 2020 to 2021.

O'Brien's ability to find the fun in sports is a key to the platform's success. As Jomboy Media expands, that will remain paramount to its success.

O'Brien told me that the brand that we have is genuine. If it remains genuine, we don't need to be completely original. Game recaps are not new. It comes off as fresh because we are enthusiastic and genuine.

The culture within Jomboy Media is fun over funny.

If your goal is to be funny, you may do that in a way that hurts other people's feelings. The idea of fun over funny is something we strive for and something we will continue to do going forward.

As part of moving forward, there will be growth in content, and continued revenues through merchandise sales, but a bigger piece is in the works.

Licensing. Everyone is looking for rich content. We're producing content that we've been lucky enough to have an audience for, so that will be attractive to partners. Jomboy Media will look to expand on the combination of channels that include content, merchandise, and licensing.

He remained level-headed about the idea that everything would take off as fast as it has with Jomboy Media.

He said that they never set expectations too high. You may have overshot your goal in six months. While there is more structure and planning in what we are doing now, we are on the ride and just letting it go.
