Digital therapy plus pills? Sidekick Health has developed a gamified digital care platform that is designed to support healthcare outcomes by applying personalized behavioral lifestyle nudges, including alongside clinical treatments like drugs, to augmentation, extend and support patient care for a range of chronic diseases and conditions.

The new round is led by Novator, with participation from Wellington Partners, Asabys Partners, and Frumtak, as well as a US-based strategic investor. The startup raised a $20 million Series A back in 2020.

As the Series B closes, Novator is joining the board.

It has been impressive to follow the rapid growth of the company from the close of its A round 18 months ago. I am proud to say that the company started in the Nordics, but is now a global player. Novator is aware of the immense opportunities presented by third generation therapeutic and Sidekick's ability to scale and operate at the global level. We are looking forward to working with the team at Sidekick.

The growing power of digital healthcare: 6 trends to watch in 2022

Sidekick Health is a b2b digital health business that is targeting health insurance firms and pharma companies, but it is not breaking out customer numbers.

40,000 patients have been helped by the startup's platform, which is currently available in six languages. Europe and the U.S. are its largest markets, as well as offices in the US, Germany, Sweden and its home market of Iceland. It says it has a big U.S. push planned.

Europe and the U.S. are currently our largest markets, but we are forging some partnerships in Asia.

Sidekick will use the funding to support and expand their U.S. presence. The recent additions of Pamela Stahl and Mitchell Mudra to the team show our strength and focus in North America. Billions of people will be served by some form of digital therapy by the year 2026. The U.S. is a market where our products and services will achieve the strongest patient outcomes.

The startup says it grew revenue threefold in the last year and plans to double its team this year.

Digital tools can be used to help patients take their pills and support them in other ways.

The company is building towards a portfolio of over 40 medical-grade digital therapies.

Sidekick already has digital therapeutic products in use in therapeutic areas such asheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, and breast cancer.

With Series B funding in the bank, Sidekick has more partnerships in the works, including one focused on supporting patients with breast cancer by helping patients manage side effects.

A number of studies have been published by the startup to prove out the efficacy of its digital therapies, including looking at use of its platform to reduce stress and fatigue in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Top 10 and 20 pharma and Top 3 Payers are partnering with us on their assets in areas like oncology, cardiovascular, and immunology and immunotoxicology.
