On May 2, 19-year-old TikTok star Avani Gregg attended the Met Gala for the first time in a red dress.

Fans said they were proud to see one of their favorites at the event, and short videos made to praise the brightly colored dress now have hundreds of thousands of Tik followers.

The Met Gala had a number of influential people at it. The first time that TikTokers were invited to the event was in September of 2021. The organizers of the event hoped that their presence would draw in a younger crowd.

From posting lip-syncing videos on TikTok to becoming the 25th most followed creator in the world and walking down the Met Ball red carpet, here is how Gregg rose to fame.

Gregg has been consistently posting on social media since 2016

TikToker was raised in Brownsburg, Indiana, and moved to Los Angeles, California, in 2019. She pivoted to social media when she was 13 after developing a stress fracture in her back while training to be a gymnast.

Bytedance acquired Musical.ly in April 2016 and merged it with its sister app, TikTok, in November of last year. A month later, she posted a video saying she had 1,000 followers.

Lip-syncing videos are a format where the user moves their lips to the words of a popular song or sound.

In 2020, she told HollyWire that her fans started calling her the "clown girl", after she began to become well-known on the app.

Gregg joined the 'Hype House' TikTok collective, filming with Addison Rae and Charli D'amelio

A group of TikTokers who filmed daily videos together, formed in December of last year, and one of the original 21 members was Gregg. In February 2020 she told Today that she did not live in the shared house with the other stars.

In May 2020, the group appeared to have a disagreement which led to the separation of the group. Fans began to speculate that she might leave the group as she began to appear less frequently in videos with the other members.

She did not appear in the Hype House reality show that aired on the streaming service in January of 2022, but she did not appear on the group's website.

Despite appearing to distance herself from the group, she is still popular on the TikTok app and is currently the 25th most followed creator in the world.

Gregg wore a red couture dress to the 2022 Met Gala

According to Teen Vogue, Gregg attended the Met Gala for the first time on May 2, and was one of six influential people at the event. Other people at the ball were TikToker and Emma Chamberlain.

The red dress was designed by New York-based American couture brand, Bach Mai.

In a video uploaded to her account on May 2, she said that she was going to the Met Gala and that it was a dream come true.

Fans said they loved the outfit and were happy to see her at the event, as the dress went viral. The Avani Met Gala where fans have edited together short video clips of Gregg wearing her dress has two million TikTok views.
