Sports teams and athletes celebrate Star Wars Day in creative ways

In May 1977 George Lucas released "Star Wars." Since then, it has become a classic in both film and television. May the force be with you has been changed to May the Fourth be with you in honor of the unofficial Star Wars holiday on May 4.

Many athletes have used the film as inspiration for outfits, props and celebratory dances throughout the years, as the sports world is no stranger to the famous series.

The Star Wars brand has been used for troll purposes by some teams. After the Missouri football team defeated the Florida Gators in overtime, Eli Drinkwitz brandished a lightsaber. It was a direct response to the Gators coach Dan Mullen who wore a Darth Vader costume to the news conference after his team beat Missouri.

Sports teams and athletes are participating in the celebration of Star Wars on Wednesday.
