The finale of Moon Knight is not supposed to be a one-off series, but it is. Moon Knight needs a second season, even if it is the second live action series from the same company.
How does it end? If you haven't watched today's episode yet, turn away.
Moon Knight didn't burden us with killing off Steven permanently, as he gave up eternal bliss to go be with him in the sands of the Duat. This moves Osiris enough to save both their souls, and combined with the freeing of Khonshu, the two return to life. Things have changed. The personality transitions in and out of one another rather than fighting for control of the body. Steven is really good at fighting as Mr. Knight. Yes, why not.
The gods are desperate after Ammit wipes out all the otheravatars, so they give her a costume and golden wings that she can use to fly. We haven't heard her name yet.
The Moon Knight series created a completely original, non-comics character named Layla to ensure that the series had an Egyptian character. I was happy to see her get her own powers and become a superhero in her own right, but it would be a shame if she was not allowed to keep using those wings in a second season.
The final reveal of the third personality that the show has teased this entire time, a hyper violent entity that neither Steven nor Marc know, is the biggest cliffhanger development.
Jake Lockley from the comics is an American cab driver, but in Moon Knight he is shown abducting and killing a Spanish man. I wonder if the Spanish is getting to have a third personality for the show that actually represents his true ethnicity, since his full name is _scar _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
It would be weird to finally introduce Jake Lockley as a compounding factor and not bring him back for more in a second season.
Moon Knight doesn't seem destined for its own blockbuster movie or for the character to be a guest star in other parts of the universe, as the show doesn't connect in a meaningful way with any other MCU property. Which is fine! Everything doesn't have to have a story. Disney should greenlight a second season of Moon Knight in order to continue this story and continue building out this corner of the universe.
Disney is very confusing with things like this, so hopefully we will hear more soon. Sometimes the path forward is obvious. Wandavision became Multiverse of Madness. The Winter Soldier is turning into Falcon. Even though the second season of Loki was a success, a show like Hawkeye, starring Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova, is still up in the air. So far, crickets.
We will see what happens to Moon Knight, but it has been a good run so far.
