According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Dave Chappelle was attacked by an audience member during a live performance at the Hollywood Bowl.
A male suspect jumped on stage and onto Chappelle as he was about to leave the stage, police said. Security officers were called in to detain the suspect.
The man, whose identification is currently being held, suffered superficial injuries while being held. He was taken to the hospital for injuries.
The man had a replica gun and knife when he was arrested.
The Los Angeles Police Department said Chappelle was not hurt in the attack.
Last year, the 48-year-old comedian was accused of being transphobic, and faced protests.
Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle appeared together shortly after Will Smith slapped Rock on stage at the Academy Awards, according to footage circulating on social media.
Rock took a microphone from Chappelle and said: "Was that Will Smith?"
