Georgia will give Rivian up to 1.5 billion in local incentives and tax credits to build a new manufacturing plant outside of Atlanta. When Rivian announced it would build a second production facility in Georgia, it said it would eventually employ more than 7,000 workers and invest $5 billion into the project. The startup needs to meet certain goals in order to get all the incentives from the state. There are a few reasons why the support package is notable. The company said it would pay for the expansion with the funding it got from its IPO. Amazon has an order for 100,000 electric delivery vans, as well as a 20 percent stake in the company. Rivian has struggled to deliver cars to customers. The delivery of the R1T trucks was delayed at the beginning of the year. The price hike for R1T and R1S pre-orders was announced and later reversed.
