Activision Blizzard Unveils Warcraft Mobile Game and Cancels Another

One of the two big projects that had been in the works was a new game for mobile phones set in the popular Warcraft universe.

Supercell's popular game, Clash Royale, is similar to the game revealed by the company Tuesday. People familiar with the company's plans, who asked not to be identified because the information is private, said that the augmented-reality game was canceled. A representative for the company did not respond to the request for comment.

There will be a free-to-play version of Arclight Rumble soon. The game series inspired the maps used in it.

According to Newzoo estimates, the mobile marketplace generated more than $93 billion in 2021, and the upcoming game is part of a Blizzard initiative to conquer it. The success of the mobile versions of the digital card game Hearthstone was a sign of the success of the games for personal computers. The company began developing games for phones several years ago and will release a game next month.

This burgeoning mobile initiative is one of the driving factors behind Microsoft Corp. The video game company's shareholders approved the purchase last week, which could lead to a regulatory review. There are allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination in the state of California.

The canceled project was modeled after the hugely popular game, where players roam the streets around their neighborhoods in search of virtual creatures to capture.
