Hornets Rumors: Mike D'Antoni, Kenny Atkinson, Darvin Ham Among HC Candidates

The Charlotte Hornets have an early list of names to interview for their head coaching position, including former coaches Mike D'Antoni and Kenny Atkinson.

Darvin Ham will also interview for the open position.

James Borrego was fired as head coach of the Hornets in April.

The Charlotte Hornets had their first winning record in two years, but still fell short of the playoffs with a 29-point loss to the Atlanta Hawks in the play-in tournament. The team lost in the play-in tournament which ended their hopes.

The team's decision to fire Borrego was due to the no-shows in play-in games.

Even without a playoff appearance in the last six seasons, an exciting roster featuring LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges and Terry Rozier should make this a coveted job this summer.

D&Antoni has led five different franchises across 16 seasons. He has won two NBA Coach of the Year Awards.

He was unable to get the team to the NBA Finals but he was able to lead the team to the playoffs in four straight seasons.

D'Antoni and the Hornets general manager have a good working relationship, as evidenced by the fact that D'Antoni was with the Los Angeles Lakers.

After four seasons as the coach of the Brooklyn Nets, he was fired the next season. He was an assistant with the Golden State Warriors during their resurgence as a Western Conference contender.

Milwaukee has been with Ham for four seasons and he has never been a head coach. After eight years in the NBA, the 48-year-old has worked with the Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Lakers.

Sweeney is in his first year with the Mavericks after previously working as an assistant with the Nets, Pistons, and Bucks.
