According to sources, the Charlotte Hornets are interviewing candidates for their head-coaching opening, including the possibility of a reunion for general managerMitch Kupchak with Mike D&Antoni.

Sources said that D&Antoni was a serious candidate early in the process because of the possibility of teaming him with young point guard LaMelo Ball.

Sources said that D&Antoni will meet with the Hornets along with several current assistant coaches whom Charlotte requested permission to speak to, including Golden State's Kenny Atkinson, Milwaukee's Darvin Ham and Dallas' Sean Sweeney. Three of those assistants are in the playoffs.

In his third season in charge of the Nets, he led them to the Eastern Conference playoffs. He was both an assistant and head coach.

Ham has been a part of Mike Budenholzer's staffs with Milwaukee and Atlanta and was a serious consideration for several head-coaching jobs in recent years.

The Mavericks have been considered the architect of the defense this season, and Sweeney worked with Kidd at the Nets and the Bucks. He is interviewing for a head-coaching job.

Over the course of two decades with Denver, Phoenix, New York, Los Angeles and Houston, D&Antoni has a record of He was a coach for Willie Green and the New Orleans Pelicans.

James Borrego, who led the Hornets to consecutive appearances in the play-in tournament, was fired by Charlotte.
