Lauderdale corrections officer, Vicky White, and capital murder suspect, Casey Cole White have been missing since Friday, April 29.
Lauderdale corrections officer, Vicky White, and capital murder suspect, Casey Cole White have been missing since Friday, April 29.

The Lauderdale County authorities obtained a warrant for the assistant director of corrections, accusing her of permitting or facilitating an escape.

White, a 25-year veteran employee at the sheriff's office, and capital murder suspect, who is not related to her, have been missing since 9:41 a.m. Friday.

White turned in paperwork to retire on her last day on the job, according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff.

After White told her subordinates that she was taking White to a mental health evaluation at the courthouse and left the jail with the suspect in handcuffs and shackles, efforts are still being made to find any video evidence.

An Alabama corrections officer could be involved in an escape. It has happened before.

The sheriff said that the vehicle Vicki White was driving at 9:49 a.m. was marked and that the cameras showed the pair on a path to the parking lot where the vehicle was later found abandoned. There is a car with two people in it, one in the front and one in the back.

Regardless of Vicki White's actions and intentions, the cause of concern for law enforcement is that she is 38 years old.

There is a law enforcement officer who is going to come in contact with him. He is extremely dangerous.

At 6 feet 9 inches tall, he will stand out, even though he may have tried to change his appearance.

The sheriff's office has made some details available.

  • The inmates were going to court in two vans.

  • After the second van left, White called for White to be brought up for transportation. When she said she was the only one certified to carry a firearm and transportCasey White against jail protocol, no one questioned her.

  • White told her coworkers that she was going to a doctor after taking the suspect to court. It has been confirmed that there was no reason for White to be taken to the courthouse.

  • The search for the CO and the inmate began at about 3:30 p.m., when co-workers couldn't reach White by phone, and they realized White hadn't been returned to the jail.

  • White was armed with a 9mm handgun and should not be approached.

A potential lead on a vehicle the two might have switched into after abandoning the marked unit has been received by the office.

The case is considered a major one by the U.S. marshals service.

Co-workers are 'in shock'

Evidence shows that the escape was orchestrated, and that the mastermind was Vicky White.

At this point, he doesn't know if that was voluntary or the result of a threat.

"This is not the person we knew, we have worked with her for many years, and she was an exemplary employee," he said.

He described the atmosphere at the office Friday evening as a funeral wake with everyone in shock.

Video footage and phone records are being looked at by investigators to see if there is a relationship between the jailer and the prisoner. He said that her duties included taking her throughout the detention center and in contact with inmates.

The sheriff is trying to figure out if White spent a lot of time with White.

Money from her retirement would not have been available to her yet because she sold her home recently. The home sale closed on April 12.

White had been in the Lauderdale County jail since February, with pending court appearances related to the murder of Ridgeway, who was stabbed to death in October 2015.

A 75-year prison sentence was given to a man who was charged in a crime spree that included a home invasion, two car jackings, and multiple shootings. He was charged in Ridgeway's death.
