The New York Mets will be without manager Buck Showalter on Monday.
According to the New York Post, Showalter was suspended for Monday's game and that pitcher Yoan Lopez was suspended for three games for throwing a pitch at Kyle Schwarber.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network said bench coach Glenn Sherlock will be acting manager in Showalter's place.
The Mets were leading the game by six runs. Umpire Jerry Meals warned both teams after Lopez threw two pitches that were inside.
Lopez hit Alec Bohm with a pitch, although he was not ejected and the general consensus was that it was not on purpose.
Schwarber was asked if he believed the right-handed pitcher was trying to hit him. He could have been in the wrong place. The same guy caused a benches-clearing brawl in St. Louis last week. I am not here to say that he was trying to hit me or that he was not trying to hit me. I don't know. I don't know if he got me out.
Lopez was the pitcher during the Benches-clearing incident in the game between the Mets and St. Louis Cards.
Nolan Arenado yelled at him after he threw a pitch near his head. St. Louis relief pitcher Genesis Cabrera was suspended for one game.
Lopez was sent to Triple-A Syracuse by the Mets.
Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors explained that the three-game suspension will go into effect when he is recalled to the major league level. Lopez has a.88 WHIP in three appearances for New York this season.
The Mets are in first place in the National League East after winning two of three against Philadelphia.
