The first-ever image of a black hole was announced by the event horizon telescope in April of 2019. The glowing disk surrounding the SMBH was shown in the image. They obtained an image of the core region of the Centaurus A galaxy in 2021.

The European Southern Observatory and researchers from the EHT will announce the results of their survey that examined the SMBH at the center of our very own Sagittarius A*. The results will be shared during a press conference on Thursday, May 12th. The event will take place at the headquarters of the organization in Germany.

The press conference will begin with a speech by the Director General of the ESO. A panel of researchers with the EHTC working group will explain the results and answer questions from the media. The panel will consist of:

A press release about the results and extensive audiovisual material will be issued shortly after the start of the press conference. You can learn more about the simultaneous press conferences in Washington D.C., Santiago de Chile, Mexico City, Tokyo, and Taipei here.

An online event for the public will follow the press conference, which will last for approximately one hour and be live-streamed on the website. A Q&A session will be held where members of the public will have the opportunity to address another panel of EHT experts.
