One of Johnny Depp's security guards testified in court on Monday that Heard punched him, threw a can of Red Bull at him, and called him a deadbeat dad.
Heard is accused of defaming him by insinuating in a Washington Post op-ed that she had been the victim of domestic violence. Heard said that she was physically abused by Depp before and during their marriage.
The security guard who has worked on the team for nine years spoke about how the couple began to argue at the end of last year. McGivern said he would get text messages from the actor to come to the couple's penthouse and help him leave.
McGivern said he witnessed Heard get violent with Depp after he lost part of his finger during a fight with her.
At some point in the evening, McGivern said he received a text from the actor asking him to come to the apartment and bring his personal nurse, who had been treating the actor for an addiction to opioids he developed after a leg injury.
The nurse stayed with Heard while McGivern went upstairs to try to get Depp out of the building.
The couple resumed their argument after Heard came back upstairs. McGivern said he and the nurse left the couple alone in their apartment, but as the fight became more volatile, they entered the penthouse.
McGivern said he witnessed Heard throw a can of Red Bull at the actor, which hit him in the back.
McGivern said the verbal onslaught continued on both sides.
McGivern said that Mr. Depp was giving as good as he could.

McGivern said he saw Heard spit at Depp, and called him deadbeat dad and washed up.

It was then that Depp went into Heard's closet and rearranged it for her.
McGivern said that when Heard returned to the apartment, she saw what had happened to her closet.
McGivern said he was demanding that the two of them leave.
McGivern said that they were leaving and it was up to him.
McGivern said Heard punched Depp in the face while standing between them.
McGivern heard a closed fist hit Mr. Depp on the left side of his face.
McGivern said that he was chewed out by Depp for letting Heard punch him. He said that the bruise on his face was red and swollen at that point.
McGivern recalled that he got right in his face and pulled his glasses down.
McGivern said he did not witness Heard getting violent with Depp.
Heard's attorneys suggested on cross-examination that Heard punched Depp because he shoved her sister, but McGivern said that wasn't the case.
In previous court records, Heard said that she hit her sister's friend, but that she did it to stop her from attacking her sister.
