The New York Mets have designated infielder Robinson Cano for assignment.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Cano is owed over 40 million dollars for the next two decades.

The 39-year-old had a.195 batting average with just one extra-base hit through 12 games. In the last six games, the Dominican Republic native only appeared in two of them.

In exchange for a package highlighted by outfielder Jarred Kelenic, the New York Yankees got Robinson Cano in a trade with the SeattleMariners. The Mets received $20 million to help offset the contract that had five seasons remaining.
