Mike Davis was released by the Atlanta Falcons on Monday.
The news was reported by Michael Rothstein and Davis seemed to confirm his departure on his social media accounts.
IG MikeDavisRB @MikeDavisRBI appreciate everything the falcons did for me. I was able to play for my hometown and impact my community. I appreciate the fans and my family.
The Falcons will save $2.5 million in salary-cap space by releasing Davis.
While starting eight games, Davis fell behind Cordarrelle Patterson on the depth chart and struggled to be effective. He scored four total touchdown as a receiver and rushed for 503 yards. In his first season as a running back, Patterson ran 1,166 yards and scored 11 times.
In March, the Falcons re-signed Patterson to a two-year, $10.5 million contract. They also added veteran Damien Williams on a one-year contract and drafted Tyler Allgeier in the fifth round of the NFL draft.
At the age of 29, Davis will be looking for his sixth team. He played for five other teams, including the Atlanta Falcons.
