Sony’s new QD-OLED and Mini LED TVs are just as expensive as you’d guess

The pricing and availability details for Sony's Bravia XR lineup of TVs were announced today. The range is led by the flagship 8K Mini LED series, which is Sony's first year making Mini LED sets.

Sony's Master Series Z95K MiniLED models come in 75-inch and 85-inch sizes and are priced at $6,999.99 and $10,000, respectively. The Z95K series will be available to pre-order this summer, but I don't think consumers will pay much attention to them.

Next up are Sony's first QD-OLED TVs, which use new panels from SAMSUNG DISPLAY. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable pricing of the QD-OLED TV that was being sold by the company. Sony's TVs are more expensive than the competition. The A95K QD-OLEDs come with Sony's superior image processing and accuracy, but they are not cheap.

The 65-inch model will cost $3,999.99, while the 55-inch model will cost $2,999.99. That makes for a rough comparison against the price of a 55-inch and 65-inch TV from the same company, which is $2,199.99 for a 55-inch and $2,999.99 for a 65-inch TV. If you're willing to pay a premium for top-notch picture fidelity, Sony tends to lead the pack. The QD-OLED sets will go up for pre-order in June in the US and Canada.

The company's X95K 4K sets are going to do some damage to your wallet, if you're interested in the superior brightness of MiniLED. Sony says the XR Backlight Master Drive in these TVs control thousands of high-density Mini LEDs in precisely controlled zones to create incredible dynamic range that makes content burst to life with deep blacks, natural colors, and phenomenal brightness. The X95K is available to order immediately if you have the cash to spare.

The A90K Master Series only come in 48 and 42 inch sizes, but they are not using QD-OLED panels.

The A80K series of OLED TVs starts at $1,999.99 for a 55 inch model. These have the best-in-class built-in speakers that Sony is known for. All of Sony's TVs are powered by Google TV, and after years of supporting it, it is now a very fluid, responsive, and stable place.
